The first pub on the site of the Auld House was built in 1806 by John Russell.

It was owned for many years by Robert Gilliland and is still known locally as Gilliland's Bar.  Bob barred women from the bar in the 1950's after a row developed amongst some women from Ballycary.  Women remained barred until the bar closed, they had to drink in the horse stables outside.

It remained open until the 18th October 1975.  The license was maintained by Bob by opening the bar for the minimum period (1 Day) every year.  He kept outsiders away by only telling a few of his cronies when he was opening!

The bar, in a very dilapidated condition was bought in the early 90's following the death of Bob by Derek McKinstry, who embarked on an ambitious renovation scheme which resulted in the original building collapsing.
